I don't think I was a loner and pretty much agree with your comments. I tried to stick to what I thought of as the facts in that one. I'm getting around to posting my 20 yr reflections on all that. Just for no other reason than to do it. I'll expect you to pick me apart on that one, too! :-)

you were only a "loner" because you like labels.
(loner, rebel, original- you are not, sorry)
the names of friends are sprinkled thru out your writing. and although i can only remember names from 20 years ago after a glass of wine & something similar to the vulcan mind meld...
i don't remember you being a LONER.

what i do remember is you were in the same boat as most of us-

wishing you were more than what you thought you were
and trying to find out what you could be.
i know nothing of where you were before you appeared in north dakota (also know as bfe) but i know exactly when you appeared and that you didn't waste your time talking to people who weren't worth your time.
we knew some of the same people, liked some of the same stuff (writing esp) , both skipped when we turned 18 ( i did in sept of my senior year- hee hee....but all i did was tan topless at my mom's & call in sick to work), had no grad party unless my mom's friends count, got a little action at dl after grad ( we- my cousin & i took the left over alcohol from the party and a boy from alabama kissed me )(for a while), and had parents that cared more about themselves than anything else.

butch up sally, you can't go back but you can do better from today on.
and remember where you were with fondness & the attitude-
i wish i knew then what i know now.

and i wish i knew you then. but then i wish i had done a lot differently.
